Book Fair Time!
The Scholastic Book Fair at N.B. Cook begins Monday, November 17 and runs through Friday, November 21. The hours are 7:30 am to 1:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. On Friday, the Book Fair opens at 7:30 am, but will close at noon. Parents may come in and shop with their children or send shopping money to school with their children. On Wednesday, the library will host "Goodies with Grands," when grandparents are invited to visit the Book Fair after school, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, with their grandchildren to enjoy some treats while shopping. On Thursday, the Book Fair will be open from 5:00 to 7:00 pm for Family Night.
On-line shopping is also available for anyone unable to shop at school. Parents may want to consider shopping for Christmas presents for their children by shopping without their children or shopping online. Profits from the Book Fair, both at school and online, will go to benefit the library. This is the most important fundraiser of the year for the library.
Meet Our Newest Member of the Office Staff
N.B. Cook recently welcomed a new member to the office staff. Most of the time, she will be the first face you see when you come into our school front office. Mrs. Angie Turner was hired in September to be our new front desk clerk. She mans the phones and oversees check-ins and check-outs, among other things. Mrs. Turner is also an N.B. Cook parent. She has 2 sons who attend our school.
Late Start Days Canceled
Superintendent Thomas will be recommending to the School Board on September 10, 2014 to DELETE the late start days that are currently on the 2014-2015 student calendar. This decision is based on a large number of concerns that parents have expressed regarding the late start days. Many parents have indicated that starting school late will create a hardship for them. As a result, the school district believes it is in the best interest of the families that we serve to cancel the three late start days. The school district is working on other solutions to meet the professional learning needs of teachers and staff. School will begin at the regularly scheduled time on September 17, November 5, and December 3.
N.B. Cook Administration Accepts ALS Challenge!
On August 22, 2014, principal Troy Brown and assistant principal Jennifer Collins accepted the ALS Challenge from both Superintendent Malcolm Thomas and the administrators of Cordova Park Elementary School.
Important Information for 2014-2015
Below are links to documents with important information for the 2014-2015 school year. The calendar is a two-page document that contains a concise list of important dates in the school year. Also, there is a document with all of the fundraiser dates, with explanations for each one. The Parent Handbook is a 12-page document that will answer many questions you may have about all sorts of topics, including schedule, meals, medication policies, attendance, dismissal procedures, volunteering, and many more. Over two dozen topics are covered about which all parents need to know. In addition, there is a one-page document with updates and changes to school policies and procedures for this school year. Lastly, there is an absence verification form that you can print out, fill in, and send back to school with your child after an absence.
